At Resorts of the Canadian Rockies Inc (RCR), we believe in furthering our mission of providing an exceptional experience for our guests while taking a measured and mindful approach towards stewardship and managing environmental challenges. The Canadian Rockies and other natural areas where we operate should be managed responsibly so they can be enjoyed by all for generations to come.
Please read on to discover how we are working to reduce our collective footprint and the initiatives we have in place to manage energy use, water consumption and be responsible for the land and wildlife in and around our resorts.
Environmental Initiatives
Sustainability is an important part of our operations at RCR. We are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint by implementing waste management programs throughout our operations, including recycling and composting, and by adopting more efficient technologies for our equipment such as snowmaking and machinery. Our resorts actively engage in being responsible stewards of the land through wildlife monitoring and management, as well as educational opportunities and awareness among staff and guests.
Water and Energy Conservation
RCR employs energy-efficient technologies such as LED lighting and high-efficiency snowmaking systems to reduce our footprint. We also have practices in place to optimize water usage in our snowmaking and facility operations, ensuring that we draw on water responsibly while maintaining great skiing conditions.
Our resorts are always looking for ways to make our equipment more efficient. This includes investing in snow-making technology on our slopes, operating tier 4 and 5 grooming equipment with impressively low emissions, or installing low- and no-flush toilet options in many bathrooms at our resorts. Whether the impact is large or small, we are always looking for new ways to reduce our footprint.
Wildlife Monitoring and Safety
Our resorts are often situated in areas where there is wildlife, and we take measures to ensure safety for animals and humans alike. This includes habitat protection efforts, wildlife monitoring programs, and working with safety protocols designed to limit human impact on nearby wildlife and the land. We work to minimize erosion and ensure minimal disturbance when grooming, glading and maintaining our slopes and trails.
Community Efforts
RCR believes in giving back to the communities where we operate. We are involved in various local initiatives aimed at enhancing community well-being, from supporting local environmental groups to participating in regional conservation projects. Our commitment extends beyond our resorts, as we strive to foster a culture of sustainability and environmental awareness within the broader communities where we work and play.
